Preferences
To open the Unsanityª Echo preferences choose Preferences from the edit menu in Mac OS classic or from the Application menu in Mac OS X, here you can choose various options:
Log Level: Depending on how this is set Unsanityª Echo will show various events in the log window (only appears when there is something to log).
• | Nothing | Any errors, warnings or general chatter are not logged and go unnoticed. |
• | Errors | Only logs errors such as ones caused by a file failing to play or by a rogue engine or EVR. |
• | Errors & Warnings (Default) | Logs Errors and any warnings like a missing EVR for a preset. |
• | Errors, Warnings, and Notes | Logs most items including general comments by programmers. |
• | Everything | Logs any old thing. Chatter, banter, errors, whims, basically anything an item in Unsanityª Echo feels like talking about. |
Change File Types : If this option is set, Unsanityª Echo will automatically change the types & creators of files being played to be opened with Unsanityª Echo if you double-click it in Finder. This does NOT change the format of the audio file.
Click Any Where in Slider Changes Its Value: If this option is set, clicking any where in a position or value "track" will set the position/volume to there. No need for dragging.
File Buffer Size: Determines how much of the file will be loaded into RAM at a time. Should be left around default.
Engine Settings: Click here to set up different settings for playback settings. Click the pop-up menu (here it says Nosefart) and choose an engine to see settings specific to that engine. (See below for window)
Network Buffer Size: Determines how large the streaming buffer must be before a stream starts playing. The larger the buffer, the longer it will take for a stream to play, however, it will have a much better change of playing with no skipping. Special Note: A 56k modem can (at maximum) connect to the internet at 7k per second which means with a 32k buffer the stream would have to buffer for about 5 seconds before it will play.
Connection Speed: Selecting a Value from this pop-up menu tells Unsanityª Echo the minimum and maximum packet size it should grab. Increase the speed if it's not going fast enough.
Use HTTP Proxy Server if Available: Uses the Proxy Server defined in the Internet control panel.
Note: On broadband connections, it may be best to chose T1/LAN.
Database Update Thread Priority: Sets the delay Unsanityª Echo scans songs for information such as title, artist, tracker, patterns.
• | Very Low | Updates Every 3 seconds |
• | Low | Updates Every 2 Seconds |
• | Medium (Default) | Updates Every Second |
• | High | Updates Every Half a Second |
• | Exclusive | Updates as often as possible, please only use this on Mac OS X |
Folder Scan Depth: Tells Unsanityª Echo how deep it should search for songs when a folder/disk is dropped on the playlist or database.
Remember Last Played Tracks: How many songs (at maximum) should be displayed when the EchoVision Area is control-clicked.
Show ID3 Tags In Playlist : If this option is set, Unsanityª Echo will show song title and author information stored in MPEG Audio files (if available). Selecting this option will add to the time it takes to load tracks (when you drag them to Unsanityª Echo window) because it will have to scan through files for tags.
Maintain Folder Hierarchy When Adding Items: If this option is set, all folders and subfolders contained within dragged into Unsanityª Echo.
Database Cache: Changes the amount of RAM available for Database Operations. Decreasing the value saves memory, but may make database operations slower.
